iPGMail is a comprehensive application that implements the OpenPGP standard (RFC 4880, RFC 6637). It provides users with the ability to create and manage both public and private PGP keys, including RSA, DSA, ECDSA, EDDSA, and ECDH keys. With iPGMail, users can securely send and receive PGP encrypted messages.

There are multiple ways to pass PGP keys and messages to iPGMail:

  • From the iOS Mail.app: The iOS mail application can directly pass PGP attachments to iPGMail without the need for copy-and-paste. Note that PGP messages within the main body of an email still require manual copy-and-paste.
  • Directly from the system clipboard: Users can copy and paste PGP message text from any file, webpage, or message into iPGMail for import and decryption.
  • iTunes File Sharing: By connecting their device to a computer and using iTunes, users can transfer files between iPGMail and their computer in the "Apps" section under File Sharing. It's important to ensure that the device is unlocked before transferring files.
  • AirDrop: Users can leverage the AirDrop feature on Mac OS/X (10.10 or later) to transfer key files from their system to iPGMail on their iPhone or iPad (iOS 7+).
  • DropBox: iPGMail can be linked to a DropBox account, allowing for easy file transfer to and from DropBox. This feature enables users to encrypt and protect their DropBox files or share encrypted files with others through DropBox's Public interface.
  • Keybase.IO: Users can import public keys from keybase.io by using the "+" button on the public key listings and searching for registered users on the platform.

In addition to these features, iPGMail now allows users to easily reply to encrypted text-based messages. It includes the original text with "> " prefixed to the lines, enabling email-like conversational exchanges while retaining strong OpenPGP cryptographic protection.

iPGMail supports direct PGP key generation (RSA) within the app. These keys are securely stored using the iOS keychain for the application. With your own private PGP keys, you can encrypt and/or digitally sign messages. Optionally, you can attach your public key to any message sent from the app, allowing recipients to import it into their own keychain, on their phone or any PGP-supported computer.

To facilitate a seamless transition, iPGMail allows users to import their private keys so they can reuse their existing PGP identity and keys on their iPhone or iPad. Both public and private keys can be imported through the interfaces mentioned above.

With iPGMail, users can search public SKS PGP key servers to find registered public keys of other individuals. This feature enables users to send digitally signed and/or encrypted email encoded in OpenPGP ASCII Armor.

This app is pivotal in securing files and sending secure email messages to intended recipients, without compromising privacy. It removes concerns regarding unauthorized access from parties other than specifically designated recipients.
